LONG ISLAND HIGH SCHOOL FOR THE ARTS

General Information
Description of ServiceFor forty-five years, LIHSA has been a powerhouse for the development of Long Island’s creative and cultural sector, challenging current thinking and practice and producing graduates who will be innovators and leaders. Our alumni are working all over the world on stage, on screen, behind the scenes and leading major events and organizations. LIHSA students come from over 60 public school districts across Nassau and Suffolk counties. To work with other artists on a campus designed for the teaching of the arts, is an unusual and remarkable way to study. In addition to the planned programs, the nature of study at the Long Island High School for the Arts develops from the character of the individuals, the chemistry of the group and the singularity of the environment. LIHSA offers programs in Theatre, Dance, Music, Special Effects, Digital Media, Fine Arts and Film. Whether you're a seasoned performer or a budding composer, we have a space that is designed for you. LIHSA’s facilities are an essential part of the education and training. Our 4 acre plus campus consists of three buildings, totaling close to 40,000 square feet of space, created expressly for the purpose of training professional artists. The Rosalind Joel Conservatory for Music and Theatre is home to The Seymour Weiner Theatre, a well equipped 350 seat space venue, two black box theaters, a digital recording studio, music classrooms, rehearsal rooms, teaching spaces, a workshop space dedicated to scenery, properties and costume creation. Two other buildings house multimedia, dance and fine arts studios. Entrance to LIHSA is based on talent, potential and ability. We are looking for students who display outstanding dedication and ambition for the performing and production arts. If you believe you meet these criteria, we encourage you to apply. Our admissions processes are designed to be fair, transparent and efficient. The audition/interview approach serves the dual purpose of allowing the panel to assess at first-hand your suitability for your chosen program and it also affords you the opportunity to gain a deeper insight into the nature of that program and the opportunities that LIHSA offers. We are looking for students who display outstanding dedication and ambition for the performing and production arts. In addition you can rent LIHSA to Plan your own event. You can rent the Seymour Weiner Theatre. Contact Barbara DelMonaco at bdelmonaco@nasboces.org to inquire about availability today. Call for more detailed information regarding the LIHSA.
