    FUGITIVE UNITReceives and records warrants forwarded by the Central Records Section for execution. Files, as detainers, warrants issued for persons already in custody. Makes necessary preparations for the Precinct Detective Bureau in extradition and rendition cases and assists other authorities coordinating the lawful apprehension and removal of persons wanted for crimes in other jurisdictions. The Unit conducts pickups from jails, utilizing Precinct Detective Squad detectives to accomplish this function when necessary. The Unit maintains the following warrants: felonies, persons residing outside Suffolk, persons wanted FOA.     PROJECT LIFESAVER PROGRAMThe program combines technology and specially trained Sheriff's Deputies to locate individuals who have wandered. Project Lifesaver clients wear a "Watch-type" wristband transmitter, which emits a tracking signal. When a caregiver calls the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office Project Lifesaver line to report that a client has wandered, a search team responds.     SPECIAL NEEDS/SILVER ALERT PROGRAMOffers a program that allows family members of people with cognitive disabilities to register their loved one with the police department and provide a detailed physical description and some medical history . Participants receive a free bracelet with a police phone number and their registration number. Once alerted that a person is missing, police can access a database and transmit detailed information to patrol cars, precincts, highway information signs, and other agencies.
