CHANCE TO ADVANCE PROGRAMProvides youth, who are adopted and in foster care ages 8 to 21 educational and enrichment opportunities through the help of one-on-one mentors. Mentors are committed volunteers in the Long Island community who are dedicated to improving the lives of youth who are adopted and in foster care by connecting them with appropriate extracurricular activities, enrichment programs, college coaching and vocational training. DEPARTMENT OF SPECIAL EDUCATIONOffers a broad spectrum of classes and services that are highly specialized to meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities, as well as non-classified students in need of alternative school settings. Classes are offered for students ranging in age from 5 to 21 years in Eastern Suffolk BOCES centers, as well as inclusive settings in our component district buildings. Students enrolled in our district sites are provided with opportunities for inclusion in general education academic classes, special subject classes, and building-wide activities while receiving specialized support services and instruction from Eastern Suffolk BOCES. All programs are aligned with Common Core Learning Standards and are designed to achieve appropriate educational outcomes for each student we serve. These outcomes include completion of a New York State Regents course of study, as well as academic, behavioral, and social skills development. These skills are developed along the continuum of student needs exhibited within the Eastern Suffolk BOCES area. All of our programs have received accreditation by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Instructional staff provided by the Special Education Division of Western Suffolk BOCES in concert with professionals funded by the Office of Mental Health/Sagamore Children's Psychiatric Center, provide intensive intervention to students on an extended day basis. LAW RELATED EDUCATIONOffers Law related education programs. The first is the Mock Trial. This program is for elementary and middle school students. Each district will receive a full trial with instruction or procedures and scoring and preparing students. The trial is an adaption of trials prepared by the New York State Bar foundation for the annual statewide High School competition. Each district will prepare both the plaintiff and defense sides of the case. Two training sessions will be available to teachers who prepare the teams. The program culminates in a one-day Mock Trial tournament in the spring. The Second program is the Forensics CSI Challenge. This hands-on “mock murder” competition provides high school students with the unique opportunity to conduct a full-scale investigation of a fictional crime. Student teams receive a fictional murder-mystery scenario riddled with subtle clues and then a simulated crime scene containing real physical evidence (i.e., fingerprints, hair and fibers, documents). The last program is Law Related Education Special Services and Conferences. Multi-modality approaches to learning best serves our students while striving to achieve their goals. Premm Learning Center offers an Elementary, Middle and Secondary program. The Center-Based Functional Academic Program at Premm Learning Center services students with moderate to severe developmental disabilities. The primary goal of the program is to maximize each student’s potential and to teach skills that will enable them to become as independent as possible within the confines of their disability. Program components include academics with an emphasis on functional skill development, utilizing a modified Common Core Curriculum. Behavior management, independent living and social skills are also addressed. Functional assessments of behavior and behavior intervention plans are implemented for support when needed. Students are classifications include: Multiple Disabilities; Intellectually Disabled; Speech Impairment; Visual Impairment; Autism; Hearing Impairment and other Health Impairments. The Elementary Program services students ages 5-11 years in grades K-5. Class size options are 8:1:1; 8:1:1 + 2 and 12:1:4 . Students do have the ability to transition to other sites. The Middle School Programs serves students ages 11-14 in grades 6-8th. Class size options are 8:1:1; 8:1:1 + 2 and 12:1:4 . Also offered is the The Secondary Developmental Program which services students ages 14-21 in grades 9th -12th and is a 12:1:4 Program. The 12:1:4 Program at Premm Learning Center emphasizes a multi-sensory approach to learning. Emphasis is placed on improving cognition, sensory motor skills development and use of adaptive equipment to aid movement and independence. Students placed in the 12:1:4 class component are non-ambulatory and are dependent upon staff for meeting their needs throughout the school day. Classroom instruction is provided with hand over hand assistance. Related services of speech, occupational therapy and physical therapy are provided on a group push-in basis. All students are assessed using a New York State alternate assessment. Also offered is the Inclusive Class Satellite Services. The Premm Learning Center offers inclusion class components for elementary and middle school aged students within off site district mainstream programs. The students serviced within the inclusion programs, experience learning disabilities but exhibit minimal to no behavioral concerns. The primary goal of the inclusion program is to maximize each student’s potential and to act as the bridge to possible return to home school district. These services are mainly offered in the schools through evidence based program to prevent violence, alcohol and drug use, teen pregnancy and promote overall healthy living. We provide workshops in the community that give resources and information that the community has identified as a need, such as gambling, heroin use, how to talk with your kids, and healthy ways to cope with stress. Also provide bully free training and services to camps across all ages. YOUTH OPPORTUNITIES UNLIMITED**During the COVID pandemic, the EOC switchboard is staffed part time from 7:30 to 1 pm M-F with no voicemail option. If you are unable to reach a staff member, please call back during the hours indicated.** Offers a comprehensive year round program including participation in local youth councils and a County-wide youth council. Summer programs include youth employment, leisure time and recreational/cultural activities.
