    Programs that provide opportunities for people to investigate their occupational interests through simulated job experiences such as role playing; career mentoring, i.e., pairing professionals and people interested in that occupation; and job shadowing, a work-based learning experience that allows a visitor to follow a host during a typical day (or other period of time) observing and asking questions about a particular career. Also included are police explorer programs, fire cadet explorer programs, and other similar groups which provide opportunities for youth who may be interested in pursuing a career in these fields as adults to gain experience in the area.

    CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION COURSESOffers career education opportunities to all juniors and seniors in Nassau County. Whether students are looking for immediate employment after graduation or wish to continue their education, they can gain valuable hands-on experience, learn marketable job skills, and receive college credits as they meet high school diploma requirements. Students enrolled at Barry Tech attend classes for two and a half hours a day, five days a week and are encouraged to participate in various career-oriented youth organizations, work-based learning activities, and take part in local and national competitions. All teachers are certified in their area of instruction, and all students’ schedules are carefully reviewed to ensure they will meet assessment and graduation requirements in accordance with No Child Left Behind (NCLB) regulations and SED mandates, the Common Core Learning Standards and the CDOS Credential. Technical endorsements for diplomas are available to students in SED-certified programs, who meet or surpass grade and Regents requirements.     CAREER ASSESSMENT AND COACHING CENTEROffers a center where students can meet with a career coach. Nassau BOCES is dedicated to preparing students of all ages and abilities for work and lifelong continuous career development and learning. Whether individually or in groups, career assessment and coaching is an essential first step to a solid, realistic Career Plan. Students can schedule their free session with a Career Coach and take an Interest Inventory and review the results with a counselor.     LIBERTY PARTNERSHIP PROGRAMRepresents a cooperative effort between the Suffolk County Community College and the Longwood Central School District, governmental agencies and business and industry to provide a unique, comprehensive and supportive environment for students for students who may be at risk of dropping out of school. LPP is funded by a grant from the New York State Education Department. The Liberty Partnerships Program serves those students in grades 7-12 who may not be reaching their academic potential by providing academic services that will improve their ability to complete high school and successfully enter postsecondary education or the workforce. LPP students who are juniors and seniors are also eligible to enroll in a two-semester program that leads successful students to one college credit upon completion. This offering contains a one-semester non-credit course that focuses on reading, writing, study skills, critical thinking and computer skills. The second semester course exposes students to topics of interest to college students and enhances their basic research skills. Additional credit-bearing courses are offered to students who successfully complete this sequence.
