AUTOMOTIVE TECHNICAL TRAININGOffers students a course to prepare for ASE Certification. Vehicles are far more sophisticated today than in previous decades and require technicians with more advanced technical training. Western Suffolk BOCES, accredited by the ASE Education Foundation, is equipped to teach you the skills that will help you advance in this field. Upon successful completion you will be prepared to sit for the corresponding certification exams which stress knowledge of job-related skills and lead to Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification. Learn the theory and skills to diagnose, service and repair cars, SUV’s and light duty trucks. You will use up-to-date electronic and hydraulic equipment to precisely diagnose today’s sophisticated vehicle. Prerequisite: High School diploma or equivalent and satisfactory score on a TABE exam and interview. Students must also attend a 4-hour safety orientation workshop. CAMPUS CONNECTIONSIn collaboration with Community Mainstreaming Associates (CMA), offers classes for young adults (18+) with autism and other intellectual disabilities. All classes and activities take place on the Hofstra campus. The program allows young adults to have inclusive interactions with peers on campus, and to connect with many campus resources, based on their individual interests and career goals. Students will become acquainted with campus life by dining at the Mack Student Center; visiting the Hofstra Bookstore, the Hofstra University Museum, WRHU-88.7 FM (Radio Hofstra University) studios, and video studios; meeting with Hofstra’s athletic teams; and exploring the athletic facilities. A comprehensive social skills curriculum, which includes exercises and class discussions, as well as daily interactions with different student groups on campus, will help students feel comfortable in a campus setting. SENIOR CITIZENSOffers Suffolk County residents 60 years of age or older the ability to attend credit-bearing courses on a space available basis without paying tuition. Please note, however, that senior citizens are expected to pay required college fees. In addition, Senior citizens enrolling in a physical education, internship, cooperative education or field placement course/program are required to pay a non-refundable Accident Insurance Fee. Those who attend courses through this program do not receive academic credit but have an opportunity to develop their personal and professional interests by attending the classes as audit students. It should be understood that no grades can be earned or recorded for participation in these courses. The College cannot extend this opportunity to attend courses on a space available basis to senior citizens registering for non-credit courses, since the latter must be financially self-supporting. Each semester a special registration time is set aside for senior citizens who wish to avail themselves of this program. Additional information may be obtained by calling the campus Registrar's Office. Senior citizens are also invited to attend the theatre productions, concerts, art exhibits and lectures sponsored by the College.
