These programs may be offered by local clubs devoted to a particular activity or sport; may provide individual or team coaching assistance or instruction, access to equipment and facilities, and uniforms, if necessary; and may sponsor or make arrangements for athletes to participate in amateur competitions, usually at the local, regional or state level, and provide officials for games. These events are generally for the enjoyment of the athletes and are not at a high enough competitive level to be considered spectator sports.

ADULT FITNESS PROGRAMOffers an individualized approach with tailored exercise programs, nutrition counseling, and recreational activities. The program includes a team of exercise physiologists and staff members certified by the American College of Sports Medicine which performs comprehensive fitness evaluations and develops individualized programs. Participants are motivated to achieve their fitness goals as they learn how to exercise properly, efficiently, and safely. Memberships are available on a limited basis to University faculty, staff, students, and other adults in neighboring communities. All participants must be over the age of 18. Entry into the program is contingent upon the approval of the individual’s personal physician. A physician’s clearance form must be submitted in order to participate in the exercise program. ADVENTURE CAMPOffers an exciting program, incorporating both on campus, and off campus activities. The program is modeled on the popular Adventure Education programs that are being featured more frequently in school curriculums across the country. Adventure Camp offers a one week session for Boys & Girls entering Grades 5-9. Adventure Camp aims to create a fun a positive small group experience that fosters leadership skills and encourages the campers to challenge themselves. The goal is to have the campers finish the program with a sense of accomplishment, self-confidence, and a stronger sense of themselves. Experienced Physical Education teachers direct and oversee the program with additional expertise offered from the on-site staff at the various trip locations. A limited enrollment will ensure plenty of active play and 'adventure' in this unique and rewarding program. The start of each session will feature initial ice-breaker activities and staff presentations as to the goals and expectations of the program. Campers will get to know each other and the staff, participate in cooperative games and discuss the themes for the program (Communication/Respect for Differences/Problem Solving). By promoting positive working relationships, the staff will encourage leadership roles and apply strategy while working on 'project adventure' style initiatives. Adventure Camp will be based at Farmingdale State College, with on-campus activities utilizing collegiate athletics facilities. Daily drop-off and pick-up will take place at Farmingdale State College, with off campus trips utilizing the FSCamps transportation provider. The program is Monday to Friday 9am-4pm. Summer 2019 Trip Locations Include: Rock Climbing @ The Gravity Vault; High Ropes Course & Zip Lines@ Long Island Adventure Park; Surfing with Skudin Surf @ Nickerson Beach; Ninja Warrior Training & Course(s) at Obstacle Athletics and Kayaking & SUP with JKKayak at Cold Spring Harbor State Park. Adventure Camp has a limited enrollment and has sold out at other locations so please register early to avoid disappointment. Campers must bring their own packed lunch in an insulated lunch bag to take on daily adventures. Registered Adventure Campers will be required to complete and submit FSCamps Camper Forms AND additional waivers for specific trip locations. Nowierski-Farina, is designed for cheerleaders who desire a full day of expert training in all facets of cheerleading. CAN Cheer Camp offers an innovative and creative curriculum developed and instructed by Coach Nowierski-Farina and her Division I collegiate staff. Training will include cheers, dances, jumps, stunts, pyramid building and gymnastics. The camp is structured for both teams and individuals to believe in themselves and achieve their personal best. CAN Cheer Camp encompasses all styles and skill levels from beginner to elite. Cheerleaders will be grouped according to age and skill level. Teams will be able to work on routine building for the upcoming season as well as create spirited traditions for their schools. Hofstra’s CAN Cheer Camp utilizes the University’s state-of-the-art, air-conditioned facilities for gymnastics and stunting sessions. COACHES & TEACHERS ASSISTANT PROGRAM (CTAP) CAMPCombines the fun of being a participant with important life skills such as leadership, personal development, team-work, and communication under the guidance of our experienced educators and directors. The program is for teens entering Grades 10-12 in the fall. Working under the guidance of our camp & program directors CTAP participants will observe and assist in all aspects of the camp program and typical daily activities whilst receiving performance feedback in a constructive environment to help build self confidence and interpersonal skills. There is a limited enrollment for the program and submitting an application does not guarantee acceptance. Applications – and recommendation letters – will be reviewed, with follow-up interviews arranged accordingly. CTAP participants will be assigned a program for a given camp session from the camp director and administrative staff. Program placement can/will vary throughout the summer to provide a well balanced experienced, and although requests can be made there are no guarantees for program placement. Acceptance to the program does not guarantee participants will be offered a summer staff position when they are eligible to apply. The program will also encompass an online learning component both before and during the summer. CTAP participants will receive a series of online video tutorials on a series of leadership and related topics. This online “training” will have a quiz component which Future Stars directors will review and discuss with the CTAP participants and also use ‘real-life’ camp experiences to further expand on these key skills and topics. DENNIS PAPADATOS WRESTLING CAMPOffers a wrestling camp for boys entering grades 2-12. Wrestling Camp is geared toward wrestlers who strive to learn the fundamentals of the sport. We teach and practice essential drills and techniques for beginning and advanced wrestlers. We also utilize wrestling videos and guest speakers as part of the learning experience. Campers are divided into small learning groups based on grade, skill level and experience, and they interact with great coaches throughout the week. Instructors are current coaches and wrestlers at Hofstra University, a national power in wrestling. Volleyball Camp is for both girls and boys who desire a full day of volleyball training and instruction. GENO FORD BASKETBALL CAMPOffers summer day camp basketball instruction for boys in grades 4-9. A second Elite Camp is offered to boys entering grades 8-12. The Geno Ford basketball camp offers the chance to learn the game the same way the stony brook men's basketball team learns each season. The stony brook program has a proven record of team success and individual improvement. Coach Ford has created a camp designed to develop players using the methods he has learned and developed in over 15 years of experience coaching at the highest level. HERRICKS ALZHEIMER'S DAY PROGRAM OUR SPACEProvides the opportunity for those who have Alzheimer's or Dementia the chance to engage in social and recreational activities led by trained staff and volunteers who are understanding and accepting. It also provides the caregiver with respite time. Family members are encouraged to take part in monthly meetings where they have the opportunity to ask questions of the staff, discuss how the participant is doing in the program and share experiences and useful information with one another, as a means of mutual support. Activities include group discussions, cognitive activities including voice, number and memory word games art and music classes led by specialists in these fields, exercise including strengthening, stretching and range of motion, supervised outdoor walks, intergenerational activities, ongoing assessment and help in maintaining skills of daily living, pet therapy in cooperation with North Shore Animal League. RICHARD NUTTALL AND SIMON RIDDIOUGH SOCCER CAMPOffers a camp that is designed for boys and girls of all skill levels to improve their game through both technical and tactical instruction. No matter how far you advance in soccer, your footwork, passing, trapping, heading and shooting can always be refined, and every improvement can make a big difference on the field. This challenging camp will help players understand the fundamentals of soccer using a vast array of game situations. Campers train with not only Richard Nuttall and Simon Riddiough but also many of Hofstra’s Division I players will be on hand. The training doesn’t stop there; many expert coaches from all over the United States and Europe are on-hand as well. These coaches believe that the emphasis on development is by doing, encouraging soccer instincts through enjoyable small-sided games and game-related learning in a positive environment. Each camper should wear daily: cotton T-shirt, athletic shorts, shin guards and soccer cleats or sneakers. Campers must also bring a water bottle. SETH TIERNEY BOYS LACROSSE CAMPOffers a lacrosse camp for boys entering grades 2 through 12 who desire a full day of training experience in all facets of lacrosse. The camp places strong emphasis on instruction and works to improve your son’s skills each-and-every day all while stressing the importance of teamwork, sportsmanship and focus. The camp is geared to boys who desire a full day of Lacrosse training. The goal of our Boys Lacrosse Camp is to teach the basics of individual, group and team lacrosse -- and have fun while doing it. Players learn the fundamental aspects of dodging, passing, catching and shooting, as well as individual defense, goalie play and face-off techniques. In addition, players learn team skills such as team offense, riding, clearing, team defense and transition play. Campers are placed on teams based on their age and ability, but will be adjusted, according to size, maturity and skill level following observation and evaluation by our professional coaches. Each day is divided into four periods: two practice sessions, lunch and an educational lecture and/or film, as well as the opportunity to swim twice per week. Lacrosse Camp utilizes Hofstra University’s state-of-the-art, outdoor facilities, an indoor heated Olympic-sized swimming pool and a fully equipped infirmary staffed by registered nurses. SHANNON SMITH GIRLS LACROSSE CAMPOffers a lacrosse camp for girls entering grades 2-12. Lacrosse camp is for every player to learn new skills and have fun playing the sport we all love! Instruction includes individual skills, strategies and game play. With a knowledgeable and experienced staff, we strive to educate each player and build on his or her strengths while addressing any weaknesses. The counselors demonstrate techniques and develop campers’ skills in a fun, positive environment, and they encourage players of all abilities to be successful at the next level. All players are divided by age and experience, and requests to be with friends will be honored. The day is divided into station/drill sessions, individual instruction, team practice, and tournament game play. Campers receive hands-on, individual attention in all areas of the game. Instruction includes, but is not limited to, catching, throwing, stick handling, dodging, draws, goal keeping, transition, groundballs, and defensive and offensive scenarios. SOCCER CAMPOffers a program that is designed to create an atmosphere that encourages and develops players entering grades 3-9 to reach their full potential. The program will encompass a morning of intensive skills and drills training with an afternoon of recreational sports and games. Throughout the week campers will cover all facets of the game including technical, tactical, physical and psychological concepts. The training methods will aim to foster the players love for the game using a progressive curriculum building from individual skills through small-sided challenges and ending in match conditions. The program is designed to improve every facet of the game, including technical, tactical, physical and mental components under the guidance of our experienced and enthusiastic Tennis professionals. Campers - entering grades 2-10 - will be carefully grouped according to skill level and age and will be encouraged to enhance their strokes and strategies via group lessons, skill building drills organized play, target training, fitness routines and more. For Beginners and Advanced Beginners: The emphasis will be on fundamental stroke production and consistency. Campers will learn the correct mechanics of each stroke, proper court position and movement, and sound strategies for future growth and development. All of the basic techniques will be reinforced constantly through fun games, singles and doubles play, coordination exercises, and team competitions. For Intermediate and Advanced Players: Routines are specifically designed to improve and strengthen strokes to produce more reliable and effective results. Repetitions are practiced to build total self confidence and muscle memory. Physical and mental toughness will be combined with advanced strategies for singles and doubles point play and match play. For High School and Tournament Players: We will work to further refine stroke production, power, intensity, focus and match play skills. We will work diligently to overcome weaknesses so players are ready to move up to the next level on a team or in the rankings. At the Attacking Camp athletes will learn from transitioning off the net to a powerful approach to a multi-directional arm swing, campers grades 6-12 can expect to learn every facet of attacking from Coach Bullock. You will learn to see the block as you jump, which will decide whether you attack down the line, seam, or angle. At Setting Camp: This camp will include two skilled and technique packed sessions led by Stony Brook Head Volleyball Coach Kristin Belzung. Coach Belz, campers grades 6-12 will focus on hand position, body posture, footwork patterns, release, location, and decision making. Libero Camp: This camp will be broken into serve receive skills and defensive skills during the two sessions. Coach Neef will put strong emphasis on body position, footwork, platform examination, various digging techniques, advanced floor skills, and ball handling techniques for serve receive and defense for campers grades 6-12. The Elite Camp is recommended for athletes with multiple years of club volleyball experience, high school athletes, and players that are expecting to play volleyball at the collegiate level. You will experience two intense days of college level instruction that will resemble training sessions and drills used in the Stony Brook Volleyball Program daily. Satellite Camps: If your time is short and you can’t get away don’t worry, we will come to you. We can bring our camps to your school or club.
