    NEW YORK STATE SMALL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT CENTER/STONY BROOKProvides one-on-one counseling and training for existing small business owners or to individuals considering starting a small business in the Nassau and Suffolk counties. The center is staffed by professionals with knowledge and experience to provide expert counseling and training for addressing the myriad of problems inherent in the start up and operation of small business. Services, all free of charge, include assistance with Business Plan Development, Small Business Start-Up assistance, Organizational Structures, Financial Planning, Export Assistance, Cost Analysis, Financing Strategies, Loan Information Assistance, Marketing, and Training Programs. The center counseling is free though a small charge may be made for actual costs associated with training courses or research. Call for details and an appointment.     OFFICE OF AFFIRMATIVE ACTION/MINORITY AFFAIRSOffers technical assistance to community based organizations, providing outreach and services to the various ethnic communities in Suffolk County. Provides referral and information services for individuals seeking assistance in accessing programs or with questions regarding matters of discrimination. Under the Office of Minority Affairs, the County Executive's African-American Advisory Board, and the Anti-Bias Task Force function to improve cultural understanding between these ethnic communities, the county government and the community as a whole. Promotes minority business development, access to services and encourages civic participation at all levels by all members of the community. Houses the County's Minority Business Enterprise Coalition and the Women's Business Enterprise Coalition, which function to assist qualified women and minority-owned businesses in Suffolk County, and may also obtain applications and information on qualifications through the office of Minority Affairs.     OFFICE OF WOMEN'S BUSINESS OWNERSHIPProvide women entrepreneurs with business training and counseling, technical assistance, mentoring, access to the SBA's programs and services, and programs to assist economically and socially disadvantaged women, especially those on welfare.     SCOTT SKODNEK BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT CENTERAssists small business entrepreneurs on Long Island and in the metropolitan area to succeed in starting or expanding a business. The BDC, a designated New York State Entrepreneurial Assistance Center, offers support to these entrepreneurs through Entrepreneurship Assistance Center EAC, Operation Downtown Seminar; Digital Marketing Bootcamps; financial management using QuickBooks and providing assistance with the Minority/Women Owned Business Enterprise (M/WBE) Certification application process. The BDC has supported more than 1,300 entrepreneurs since 1991 and received the Outstanding Performance Award from Empire State Development Corp. in 2009, 2013 and 2019. Holds procurement conferences at major federal buying sites to increase the pool of qualified women business owners.
