A pattern of excessive alcohol use that leads to clinically significant impairment or distress. Diagnostic criteria include a strong desire to drink alcohol, difficulties in controlling its use, risky use, e.g., driving or operating machinery while under the influence, persisting in its use despite harmful personal, social and occupational consequences, pathological organ changes, increased tolerance and physical withdrawal symptoms.

IMPAIRED DRIVER PROGRAMOffers an Impaired Driver Program for eligible motorists convicted of Driving While Intoxicated (DWI), or Driving While Alcohol Impaired (DWAI). The Department of Motor Vehicles determines eligibility for the program. If you are eligible, you must register at your local DMV office. For detailed information on the program visit the DMV website. Nassau Community College offers a convenient schedule with weekend and evening classes. Classes are offered Monday - Thursday evenings, Saturday mornings and occasionally Sunday mornings. The $234 fee (certified check or money order) is payable to NCC, at the first class. Classes are located in the NCC North Annex at 500 Endo Blvd, Garden City.
