CHILDBIRTH PREPARATION CLASSESOffers classes for parents expecting their first child or those who have never attended childbirth classes before. The six weekly sessions are taught by registered nurses certified by the Council of Childbirth Education specialists. Topics reviewed include: signs of labor, labor process, possible medications, anesthesia, newborn care, breathing and relaxation techniques, bottle/breastfeeding, and post-partum care. DIVISION OF FAMILY PLANNINGOffers women of all ages gynecological care and contraceptive services on a sliding scale fee. Offers birth control information and supplies including emergency contraception, depo-provera injections, norplant, IUD's and other contraceptive methods are available. Services include: pap tests sexually transmitted infection and disease testing and treatment for women and HIV testing and counseling. Free pregnancy testing and full range options counseling. Offers pregnancy planning, prevention and post-partum care, breast examinations, tuberculosis tests, hypertension screenings, nutritional guidance and referrals to special clinics. Emergency contraception can be offered to those who meet the requirements. MOTHER AND CHILD PROGRAMOffers a 16 Adult bed residential treatment facility for pregnant and postpartum women and their infants up to two years of age. The MAC program enables pregnant substance abusers to receive treatment without having to be separated from their children. Treatment services include intensive individual, group and family counseling, structured socialization and vocational/educational training. In addition, the women receive instructions on pre-natal care, Lamaze, and parenting skills. While the women are involved in treatment activities, the children are cared for by certified child care workers in the program's on-site Child Development Center.
