    Individuals who install, service and repair heating and air conditioning systems that control the temperature, humidity and the total air quality in residential, commercial, industrial and other buildings; and/or refrigeration systems that make it possible to store and transport food, medicine and other perishable items. Heating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems consist of many mechanical, electrical and electronic components such as motors, compressors, pumps, fans, ducts, pipes, thermostats and switches. Technicians must be able to maintain, diagnose and correct problems throughout the entire system. Technicians often specialize in either installation or maintenance and repair, although they are trained to do both. Some specialize in one type of equipment e.g., oil burners, solar panels or commercial refrigerators.

Western Suffolk BOCES is an approved technical and trade school/Adult Education School with NORA (National Oil Research Alliance) and OESP (Oil & Energy Service Professionals). After successful completion of Oil Burner I & II, students are qualified to take NORA Bronze Certification exam. If students successfully complete Oil Burner I & II and Boiler Installation and have three years of certifiable field experience, they are qualified to take NORA Silver Certification exam.     REFRIGERATION & AIR CONDITIONINGOffers courses in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning I, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning II, Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling, EPA Certification Test and Seminar and Certification Test, Blueprint Reading, Gas Burner, OSHA 10, Trade Electric IV-Motor Control and Trade Electric Theory. Upon successful completion of the required program sequence, participants will receive a certificate reflecting achievement in their field of study such at Refrigeration and Air Conditioning RAC/EPA Certified Technician. Also offered is the EPA Certification Test and Seminar. This is a mandatory exam for all technicians who service, maintain and repair commercial refrigeration and air conditioning equipment.
