INFORMATION NOTIFICATION EVERYDAY (VINE)Provides a 24 hour, toll-free hotline to crime victims with up-to-date custody status information on offenders. Registered victims receive automatic phone calls when an inmate has a change in status, such as release or transfer. Notification calls continue until notification is confirmed using the registered person's 4-digit PIN number. Purpose is to assist crime victims and other concerned persons by providing continual access to inmate custody and case information. Serves Suffolk County. NEW YORK STATE OFFICE OF VICTIMS SERVICES (OVS)Created under Article 22 of the New York State Executive Law to compensate innocent victims of crime for unreimbursed out of pocket expenses, including medical and counseling expenses, funeral expenses, loss of earnings or support, the cost to repair or replace items of essential personal property, reasonable court/medical transportation expenses, occupational/vocational rehabilitation, and the cost of residing at or utilizing the services of a domestic violence shelter.
