    ADVENTURE CAMPOffers an exciting program, incorporating both on campus, and off campus activities. The program is modeled on the popular Adventure Education programs that are being featured more frequently in school curriculums across the country. Adventure Camp offers a one week session for Boys & Girls entering Grades 5-9. Adventure Camp aims to create a fun a positive small group experience that fosters leadership skills and encourages the campers to challenge themselves. The goal is to have the campers finish the program with a sense of accomplishment, self-confidence, and a stronger sense of themselves. Experienced Physical Education teachers direct and oversee the program with additional expertise offered from the on-site staff at the various trip locations. A limited enrollment will ensure plenty of active play and 'adventure' in this unique and rewarding program. The start of each session will feature initial ice-breaker activities and staff presentations as to the goals and expectations of the program. Campers will get to know each other and the staff, participate in cooperative games and discuss the themes for the program (Communication/Respect for Differences/Problem Solving). By promoting positive working relationships, the staff will encourage leadership roles and apply strategy while working on 'project adventure' style initiatives. Adventure Camp will be based at Farmingdale State College, with on-campus activities utilizing collegiate athletics facilities. Daily drop-off and pick-up will take place at Farmingdale State College, with off campus trips utilizing the FSCamps transportation provider. The program is Monday to Friday 9am-4pm. Summer 2019 Trip Locations Include: Rock Climbing @ The Gravity Vault; High Ropes Course & Zip Lines@ Long Island Adventure Park; Surfing with Skudin Surf @ Nickerson Beach; Ninja Warrior Training & Course(s) at Obstacle Athletics and Kayaking & SUP with JKKayak at Cold Spring Harbor State Park. Adventure Camp has a limited enrollment and has sold out at other locations so please register early to avoid disappointment.     BOYS BASKETBALL CAMPOffers numerous summer camps and clinics throughout the year for student-athletes of varying ages looking to have some fun and improve their skills. Offers the Dave Duke Panther Basketball Camp. We are ecstatic to announce the 3rd annual Dave Duke Panther Basketball Camp. We believe our staff, which has more than 30 combined years of collegiate coaching experience, is uniquely qualified to provide valuable basketball knowledge to campers. The central tenet of our camps will be the same as the central tenet of our collegiate program: to create a family atmosphere for our campers based on having fun, maintaining a positive attitude and treating everybody fairly. This will allow campers of different ages and skill levels to thrive under our tutelage. Dave Duke Panther Basketball Camps are conducted at Adelphi University in the fully air conditioned Center for Recreation and Sports on 3 full sized basketball courts with 12 baskets. All camp instruction is provided by Adelphi University's coaching staff and Adelphi players with an emphasis on individual skill development, team concepts and 5 on 5 live play.     BUILDING BETTER ATHLETES CAMPDesigned to train athletes from the ground up. Our progressions are designed to create sound training habits that will transfer over onto the field, court, track, or pool. Our program focuses on the 6 components to building better athletes. The Six Components to the Building Better Athletes include: Athlete Profile; Movement Preparation; Movement Training; Strength; Energy System Development; and Recovery and Regeneration. The highly qualified staff led by Stony Brook Assistant Athletic Director for Athletics Performance George Greene prides themselves on creating a positive encouraging environment where athletes can grow both physically and mentally. The Program: On day one each athlete will be assessed using our movement screen to determine strengths and weaknesses as well as address any limiting factors for performance.     CHRISTINE A. NOWIERSKI CHEER CAMPCAN Cheer Camp, under the direction of Hofstra Cheerleading Coach Christine A. Nowierski-Farina, is designed for cheerleaders who desire a full day of expert training in all facets of cheerleading. CAN Cheer Camp offers an innovative and creative curriculum developed and instructed by Coach Nowierski-Farina and her Division I collegiate staff. Training will include cheers, dances, jumps, stunts, pyramid building and gymnastics. The camp is structured for both teams and individuals to believe in themselves and achieve their personal best. CAN Cheer Camp encompasses all styles and skill levels from beginner to elite. Cheerleaders will be grouped according to age and skill level. Teams will be able to work on routine building for the upcoming season as well as create spirited traditions for their schools. Hofstra’s CAN Cheer Camp utilizes the University’s state-of-the-art, air-conditioned facilities for gymnastics and stunting sessions. Each camper should wear daily: cotton T-shirt, athletic shorts with no pockets, flat sole sneakers/cheerleading sneakers and sweat socks. Players must bring their own water bottle.     COACHES & TEACHERS ASSISTANT PROGRAM (CTAP) CAMPCombines the fun of being a participant with important life skills such as leadership, personal development, team-work, and communication under the guidance of our experienced educators and directors. The program is for teens entering Grades 10-12 in the fall. Working under the guidance of our camp & program directors CTAP participants will observe and assist in all aspects of the camp program and typical daily activities whilst receiving performance feedback in a constructive environment to help build self confidence and interpersonal skills. There is a limited enrollment for the program and submitting an application does not guarantee acceptance. Applications – and recommendation letters – will be reviewed, with follow-up interviews arranged accordingly. CTAP participants will be assigned a program for a given camp session from the camp director and administrative staff. Program placement can/will vary throughout the summer to provide a well balanced experienced, and although requests can be made there are no guarantees for program placement. Acceptance to the program does not guarantee participants will be offered a summer staff position when they are eligible to apply. The program will also encompass an online learning component both before and during the summer. CTAP participants will receive a series of online video tutorials on a series of leadership and related topics. This online “training” will have a quiz component which Future Stars directors will review and discuss with the CTAP participants and also use ‘real-life’ camp experiences to further expand on these key skills and topics. CTAP participants will be required to attend a pre-summer meeting to review the program along with a discussion regarding the goals and expectations of the CTAP experience. Throughout the summer CTAP participants will have weekly meetings with program director(s) to provide feedback, host CTAP group activities, and program discussions.     COMPUTER SCIENCE AND INFORMATICS SUMMER RESEARCH EXPERIENCE PROGRAMOffers a residential/nonresidential summer that program that will provide opportunities for high school students to participate in research and motivate the students to pursue a career in the field. The program is held jointly by the Department of Biomedical Informatics and the Department of Computer Science at Stony Brook University. Each student will be working in a lab mentored by a faculty or a Ph.D. student on a research project. Students will also visit labs and attend seminars introducing cutting edge research in both informatics and computer science. The students will present their work to their classmates during the middle and the end of the program. Programming background is required and some projects will require background on biomedical sciences. Participating students who live on campus during the week will go home on the weekends. They are housed in a dormitory reserved for academic high school programs. Students participate in recreational activities (at the dorms, athletic fields), as well as visit other campus offices such as Admissions and Student Activity Center to learn more about college life. Students will be escorted to and from the lab and supervised during breakfast and dinner and all other activities on campus (including the laboratory, dormitory, library, computer facilities, gymnasium, on all field trips, etc.) with the exception of lunch.     DENNIS PAPADATOS WRESTLING CAMPOffers a wrestling camp for boys entering grades 2-12. Wrestling Camp is geared toward wrestlers who strive to learn the fundamentals of the sport. We teach and practice essential drills and techniques for beginning and advanced wrestlers. We also utilize wrestling videos and guest speakers as part of the learning experience. Campers are divided into small learning groups based on grade, skill level and experience, and they interact with great coaches throughout the week. Instructors are current coaches and wrestlers at Hofstra University, a national power in wrestling.     EMILY MANSUR VOLLEYBALL CAMPOffers a volleyball camp for girls and boys entering grades 2 – 12. Volleyball Camp is for both girls and boys who desire a full day of volleyball training and instruction. Camp provides a healthy atmosphere in which campers can enjoy playing volleyball and developing friendships. Players will develop their skills through frequent ball contact in a fun yet challenging environment. Games and competition will be used throughout camp as a learning tool with continued positive feedback. This program is available to players of all ability levels. Campers are placed into groups of similar skill level in order to insure the most improvement, challenge and excitement. The intended goal is to motivate the skilled player, while teaching the beginner the basics to building a strong foundation in volleyball.     ENGINEERING SUMMER CAMPOffers a one-week residential/nonresidential program which will introduce students to electrical engineering and also to computer programming. No background in programming, physics, or advanced mathematics is necessary. Students will investigate concepts in electricity and magnetism by building electromagnets, electromagnetic motors, and generating electricity. They will connect these concepts to larger applications in electrical engineering. The participants will begin to develop their skills in electronics by building some basic circuits and will advance to more complex electronics projects using breadboards and microprocessors. They will each receive a credit-card sized computer called a Raspberry Pi and will learn how to develop code with it. The course will culminate with a project interfacing the Raspberry Pi with electronics components. The students will be able to take home these projects. Throughout this program students will gain insight into how basic engineering concepts relate to the world around them. They will also learn about some of the current developments in the fields of electrical engineering and computer programming.     FLAG FOOTBALL CAMPOffers a camp that is designed to create an atmosphere that encourages all players grades 3-9 to learn and develop fundamental Football skills in a non-contact environment. The program takes place on campus at Farmingdale State College utilizing the collegiate athletic facilities. Campers will learn techniques to help them excel such as passing, receiving, and footwork in addition to speed and agility work to help with their physical literacy. Offensive and Defensive principles will be addressed as campers continue to ‘learn the game’ and develop their understanding of team concepts and sportsmanship. Scrimmages will be up to 7v7 on a 30x60 yard field following typical ‘flag football’ rules.     FOOTBALL CAMPCamps offered include the Priore One Day at Stony Brook University which is open to any and all players entering 9th grade through 12th grade. It is our goal at the Chuck Priore Football Camp to improve a young man’s performance on the football field through quality individual instruction. Under the guidance of Head Coach Chuck Priore and the Seawolves Football Staff, each young man will learn sound football fundamentals. The camp features intensive fundamental instruction at every position, speed training, and allows these young men to display competitiveness and football ability. The Geno Ford basketball camp offers the chance to learn the game the same way the stony brook men's basketball team learns each season. The stony brook program has a proven record of team success and individual improvement. Coach Ford has created a camp designed to develop players using the methods he has learned and developed in over 15 years of experience coaching at the highest level. Adelphi is proud to host their popular Nike Volleyball Camps in Garden City under the direction of Head Women's Coach Danielle MacKnight. This year we are offering Full Day (9:00am-2:00pm) and Half Day (1:00pm-4:00pm) camps for girls, ages 11-14, of all ability levels. Upon arrival, all participants are evaluated by the staff and placed into groups based on age and ability level. Campers will master the fundamentals and develop proper mechanics through a mix of drills, games and competitive play.     I-STEM BIOTECHNOLOGY SUMMER SCHOLARS PROGRAMOffers students a summer residential/nonresidential laboratory program whose goal in this program is to introduce motivated high school students to the techniques used in modern biotechnology research. The students will begin by learning concepts and techniques as a class but will quickly move to working in small groups or with a partner. We will use lectures by university faculty, library research and model systems such as bacteria, yeast, Euglena, C. elegans and Dictyostelium, to help the students choose and explore topic areas that interest them.     SETH TIERNEY BOYS LACROSSE CAMPOffers a lacrosse camp for boys entering grades 2 through 12 who desire a full day of training experience in all facets of lacrosse. The camp places strong emphasis on instruction and works to improve your son’s skills each-and-every day all while stressing the importance of teamwork, sportsmanship and focus. The camp is geared to boys who desire a full day of Lacrosse training. The goal of our Boys Lacrosse Camp is to teach the basics of individual, group and team lacrosse -- and have fun while doing it. Players learn the fundamental aspects of dodging, passing, catching and shooting, as well as individual defense, goalie play and face-off techniques. In addition, players learn team skills such as team offense, riding, clearing, team defense and transition play. Instruction includes individual skills, strategies and game play. With a knowledgeable and experienced staff, we strive to educate each player and build on his or her strengths while addressing any weaknesses. The counselors demonstrate techniques and develop campers’ skills in a fun, positive environment, and they encourage players of all abilities to be successful at the next level. All players are divided by age and experience, and requests to be with friends will be honored. The day is divided into station/drill sessions, individual instruction, team practice, and tournament game play. Campers receive hands-on, individual attention in all areas of the game. Instruction includes, but is not limited to, catching, throwing, stick handling, dodging, draws, goal keeping, transition, groundballs, and defensive and offensive scenarios.     SIMONS SUMMER RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPProvides academically talented, motivated high school students who are between their junior & senior years the opportunity to engage in hands-on research in science, math or engineering at the Stony Brook University. Simons Fellows work with distinguished faculty mentors, learn laboratory techniques and tools, become part of active research teams and experience life at a research university. The Simons Summer Research program now attracts applicants from all across the country to the Stony Brook campus: Simons Fellows are matched with Stony Brook faculty mentors, join a research group or team, and assume responsibility for a project. The Simons Fellows conclude their apprenticeship by producing a written research abstract and a research poster. In addition to learning valuable techniques and experiencing life at a major research university, Simons Fellows attend weekly faculty research talks and participate in special workshops, tours and events. TechPrep addresses the underrepresentation of minority women in stem by providing an educational enrichment program to empower middle school girls from underserved communities on long island. This robust program develops students’ competence and confidence in their math and science abilities by providing an intensive multi-level program that integrates science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (steam) with mentoring and application based hands-on activities. Over the course of one week in the summer, TechPrep students participate in intensive project based instruction facilitated by university faculty, graduate, and wise undergraduate mentors. Participation is based on three sequential modules that are taken over the course of three years. Module 1: Biology & Chemistry; 6th grade students discover living organisms and their chemical and physicochemical processes with lessons. Students will be encouraged to think and speak like scientists, work together in teams, and explore biology and chemistry in new and interesting ways. Module 2: Mathematics & Physics 7th grade students are introduced to applications of math and physics in real world situations. Included in these lessons are tours of facilities on campus which help further reinforce how basic principles can be scaled to cutting-edge research and provide students with exposure to real-world scientific environments. The All Skills Camp is designed for players of all levels ranging from beginner to varsity level entering grades 6-12. Campers will receive 12 hours of skills instruction covering the six main skills needed to become a successful volleyball player. Skills will be taught in both individual and team settings. We will also discuss what it takes what it takes to be a collegiate athlete and other important topics for today’s athletes. At the Attacking Camp athletes will learn from transitioning off the net to a powerful approach to a multi-directional arm swing, campers grades 6-12 can expect to learn every facet of attacking from Coach Bullock. You will learn to see the block as you jump, which will decide whether you attack down the line, seam, or angle. At Setting Camp: This camp will include two skilled and technique packed sessions led by Stony Brook Head Volleyball Coach Kristin Belzung. Coach Belz, campers grades 6-12 will focus on hand position, body posture, footwork patterns, release, location, and decision making. Libero Camp: This camp will be broken into serve receive skills and defensive skills during the two sessions. Coach Neef will put strong emphasis on body position, footwork, platform examination, various digging techniques, advanced floor skills, and ball handling techniques for serve receive and defense for campers grades 6-12. The Elite Camp is recommended for athletes with multiple years of club volleyball experience, high school athletes, and players that are expecting to play volleyball at the collegiate level.
